Industry

Would it be wrong to call a bumble bee industrious?

It looks challenging, dodging birds and

clinging to sagging wax currant flowers,

bobbling golden in the evening breeze.

They make it look mundane, and maybe it is.

My poor human eyes trained to see hard labor, twisted.

Justify, use it as bench post of my own efforts,

expose my trials and the burnt out failures.

Maybe it is an enjoyable task, finding those buds,

full and heavy with nectar and strengthening pollen.

The simple pleasure of buzzing between

root and rose and the remaining branches of an

ashy willow that hadn’t survived the winter.

While the spring blows strong from the south

and geese honk from the pastures.
